Eddie Streeter and daughter
Sarah, |
| Monto breeders Eddie and
Debbie Streeter of Fairy Springs Stud have assembled an offering of five
for the Big Country Sale.
Four of the reds are sons of the ever-consistent red breed leader, Huonfels Jacob Rio and the remaining entry is a son of Lanes Creek Red Montague. Montague, a son of the industry favourite Tartrus Redmount, was a $19,000 sire purchase at the 2004 Big Country Sale and this son will be his first offered at auction. Of the five, all are polls and all have been GeneStar tested with impressive results. With the herd continuously assessed under the Supergene system since 2000 it is now undertaking the opportunity to compare some of the stud cattle with the GeneStar system. Early results are very promising with nothing under three stars and some individuals recording levels as high as seven stars. Fairy Springs has embraced GeneStar for the scientific evidence it provides of their cattle's potential performance, and the Streeters now GeneStar test all of their sale bulls as well as a select number of stud females. Results have not only shown genetic strength throughout the herd, but also genetic consistency, with both sides of the sale bulls' pedigrees also returning high scores. Team leader is Fairy Springs Epic (P) a two-year-old by Jacob Rio from a Fairy Springs Red Dollar daughter. Epic recorded impressive GeneStar results of two for marbling, five for tenderness and six for feed efficiency. Another entry, Riley is a full brother to Banchee, the eventual sale topper of the 2006 Monto All Breeds Sale and a seven star rated bull. In his own GeneStar testing, Riley recorded one star for marbling, six for tenderness, and seven for feed efficiency. As for the remaining sale bulls, Fairy Springs Chaparral and Warlock both scored two stars for both marbling and tenderness, and seven stars for feed efficiency, while Imperial scored one for marbling, five for tenderness and six for feed efficiency. Last year the prefix sold nine bulls to set a $9,100 average topping at $48,000 for a half share in the poll, Fairy Springs Red Leader. |
All bulls have been semen tested, Genestar tested, and EMA scanned.
