We would like to thank all visitors to our site at Beef Week 2009.  It was rewarding to welcome so many new and old acquaintances during the week.  Our semen draw was again well received.  Congratulations to the winners. Tuesday - Roger Croser, Bonanza Brahman Stud; Wednesday - Adam Gunthorpe, Tarramba Brahman Stud; Thursday - Brett Kinnon, Bungoona Brahman Stud; Friday - Greg Popplewell, Popplewell Composites.
Many visitors to our site found guest speaker, Albert Hancock's presentation very interesting and thought provoking.  Debbie is already working with Albert to make it even better in 2012.  We would like to congratulate all involved in Beef 2009 for what we believe is the best Beef Week held so far.  The week just seems to get bigger and better.

Albert Hancock

Albert Hancock lives on a 2000 acre property south east of Glen Innes NSW, on the New England Tablelands. He moved there from the coast about 20 years ago with about 300 F1 breeding Brahmans.

He continued to cross breed with other British breeds suited to the area but became disappointed with the fertility and structure of his herd. He then selected heavily on fertility and maternal traits. This led him to the Red Poll cattle for their strong femine and maternal traits.

Albert now runs his operation and visually selects by three basic principals: Carcass, Functional and Maternal traits. This becomes apparent when looking at the skin type and bone structure of his herd. Currently Albert runs 150 commercial Red Poll infused cattle which have no problems with fertility and calving.

On a number of occasions Albert has given talks on his critical selection. With the aid of live cattle, Albert makes logical statements of where the bone placement should be to benefit the producer. He also covers maternal traits such as the udder, teat and testicular placement.

Heifers which were for sale at Beef Week:

Fairy Springs Stella 3164 (P)

Fairy Springs Jan 3267 (P)
- sold to Bernie Schneider, Fire Fly Brahman stud, Beef Week 09, $20,000.

Fairy Springs Daydream 3158 (P)

The 3 heifers above are a representation of the direction in which we are taking our cattle.  They are bred under natural conditions as are their dams.  This gives a true indication of the ability of the cattle to be productive under the natural climatic conditions we face year in, year out.  Heifers of this quality are usually retained but as we are no longer selling at auction we have made the decision to present these heifers for sale at Beef Week.  They are the best of our 07 calf drop.  This is a great opportunity for stud breeders to access our best, most productive genetics.

Fairy Springs Stella 3164 (P)
Stella 3164 is a clean polled Jacob Rio female of exceptional quality.  Her dam is an outstanding LC Penne-E-Father cow that has produced  8 calves in 8 years under natural breeding conditions with her last two calves born 290 days apart.  Her dam has been selected to be on display at Beef 09 along with her full brother Fairy Springs Rio Grande, a young calf we have selected as a future herd sire and semen donor sire.  Stella is a very feminine, long bodied with a very clean underline.  This is a one off chance for red Brahman breeders to secure an outstanding young polled female.  She sells bred to our polled sire Fairy Springs Rio Zebo 3139.  Pregnancy result available at Beef Week.

Fairy Springs Jan 3267 (P)
Jan 3267 is a lovely feminine heifer by our homebred sire Fairy Springs Penne-E-Rama.  She is out of Fairy Springs Jan 2363 who is Debbie's favourite cow.  Jan 2363 was in our display at Beef Week 06 and was described by many as an outstanding brahman cow.  We will only be making heifers of this quality available at events such as Beef Week and she comes with our highest recommendation.  She has been running with Fairy Springs Rio Zebo.
SOLD to Bernie Schneider, Fire Fly Brahman stud, Beef Week 09, $20,000.

Fairy Springs Daydream 3158 (P)
Daydream 3158 is a lovely smooth polled Jacob Rio female out of Fairy Springs Daydream 2058 who is a daughter of USA sire Mr. Fonenot 125.  Daydream 2058 is one of the most productive females in our herd having had 6 heifer calves in succession under natural breeding conditions.  All her daughters have been retained in the herd.  Daydrean 2158 has a lovely nature and has been running with Fairy Springs Rio Zebo.
